leider haben ihm die letzten 10 Jahre Charter Business ein wenig zugesetzt. Ist sie doch einige Male zwischen Kroatien und den Kap Verden hin und her gesegelt. Als Schulschiff wurde sie eingesetzt, genau so wie sicher nicht immer fachgerechtes Handling. Reparaturen mußten rasch getätigt werden. Normaler weise tauscht man das Rigg (all die Drahtseile) alle 10 Jahre aus, unsere ist ein 2004er Baujahr und es wurde noch nichts ausgewechselt ... aber jetzt 😁.
Nähe Rijeka haben wir eine sehr nette kleine Rigging Firma gesucht und in Arsen, dem Chef, einen Spezialisten und Tüftler gefunden. Ende Dezember wurde der Mast inspiziert und leider nicht als 100%ig sicher eingestuft. Somit war für uns klar, es muß ein neuer her. Der Baum (der Quermast) ist vollkommen in Ordnung und kann bleiben. Mitte Jänner ist der Mast dann abgenommen worden. Letzte Woche ging die Bestellung raus: circa 6 - 8 Wochen Lieferzeit weil jeder Mast eigens in Frankreich hergestellt wird. Mittels einer Spedition wird das neue Stanglwerk dann nach Monfalcone, in Italien, gebracht, wo die Pink Penguin soeben transferriert wurde.

In the last 10 years of charter business the mast got a little worn down. It sailed a lot of miles from Croatia and Cape Verde islands forth and back. Then it was also used as a schoolboat and in heavy winds maybe a not too qualified sailor. Renovation had to take place quick and inbetween charter. Usually you change the rigging every 10 years, but on our boat nothing has been changed since it was built in 2004. But now ... we are changing not only the rigging but also the mast.
Close to Rijeka in northern croatia we found a very nice and small rigging company with Arsen as the boss beeing a specialist in his job. Mid january the mast was eventually unstepped, so we are top less right now 👙. Delivery time will be in roughly 6 weeks. Then it will be delivered from France to the Marina in Monfalcone, where we have just transferred Pink Penguin to.
