bald ... / soon ...

🇦🇹

🇬🇧

What's up?

1) we are still where we were end of last October, in Calabria, in Southern Italy

2) we are still working on our boat projects. Please don't assume 🐧🐧 is so broken, noo! it's just a few little bits and pieces, like removing old non working salt water pumps, removing the old (and ugly) PP writing which is still dating back to charter times, cleaning the bilge from little bit of water, sewing dark curtains for an even happier long sleep in, ...

3) the weather is still not "Southern". You can tell the italians are still wearing their jackets ;-) We had about 3 really nice, sunny, hot, no wind days but otherwise it's windy (either cool wind or red sahara sand wind where all hatches are closed).

4) but we are still happy 😍

🦠... but most important, what's new on the Corona front line ??

Since May 4th (May the Force be with you!) we could theoretically leave the Marina, but we would have had to come back into the same Marina by evening ... and for those that have been sailing with us ... there is no "oh let us go for a quick sailing trip" ... getting the lines ready, leaving our cul-de-sac parking space ... for just going out beyond the break water to play around in the swell ... Since May 18th we could have left the Marina for good to sail to another Marina or anchor out somewhere. But ONLY within your province, so for us that is Calabria.

Have a closer look on google maps ... there is not one bay or island along or off the calabrian coast line.  So let's say we went to the part of the western side of calabria, between Messina and Tropea. If there was a Mistral (westerly wind) approaching, there is no way for us to hide ... it's more ore less one flat straight coast line. Sardinia or Sicilly is something different, but they are also different provinces ... 🤨

That's why we decided to stay another 2 to 3 weeks put. That makes no difference.

And the other thought is a more serious one:

Italy is supposed to open up to leaving and arriving boats on June 3rd, about the same time as Greece. But imagine sailing 3 days to Greece just to find they are on lock down again .. we don't want to be stranded in nomansland. That's why we want to give all the other boats a head start and we will wait a couple more days.

But what is our goal ? - For the rest of this years sailing season we are planning to sail the Ionian Sea with Lefkada and Zakyntos and Peloponnes as well as the eastern side of the P. incl the Canal of Corinth ...

Our estimate: end of first week in June, unless things change again
